One on one (individual) therapy with Andrea can be extremely beneficial in helping you reach your goals; whether those goals are for you or for your child(ren). Andrea engages in individual therapy with children, adolescents, and adults. She is educated from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy framework and finds many benefits to bringing these skills into the individual therapy setting. She will teach you skills that will help you mitigate negative thoughts, behaviors, etc., which will be tailored to fit seemlessly into your life. Andrea is also solution-focused in her treatment, meaning that she is future-focused and goal-directed. This does not mean that the past cannot be discussed; just that it will not be all that is discussed. Processing events that brought you to where you are today is extremely important. Arguably more important, however, is developing solutions to the problem and plans for improvement. Of note, Andrea is also certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for children and adolescents. Please ask for more information about this treatment!
Often, people think that family therapy must mean that all members of the family are together in one counseling room, addressing topics that affect the family unit. While that is entirely possible, many family therapy sessions look very different than that. It can include one child and one parent (or both parents), more than one child and one or both parents, or parents without children present. As long as the aim/goal is to improve the functioning of the family unit, we’re engaging in family therapy. Some topics that are commonly discussed in family therapy are conflict within the family, disrespectful behavior displayed by children, ineffective communication, high-risk behaviors on behalf of the child(ren) or the parent(s), and much more. Similar to individual therapy, Andrea approaches family therapy from a solution-focused and client-centered stance. She also incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques into the family therapy setting.
We all have our own difficulties to deal with on a daily basis. Throw parenting into the mix and it might seem completely overwhelming to manage our own mental health in addition to the well-being of our child(ren). It might be difficult to navigate through the transitions of parenthood or there might be behavioral concerns that you would appreciate some help with. Andrea provides parent support sessions in as many or as little sessions as you need. You may just need to get over a single hurdle or you may request support in dealing with a significant behavioral concern your child(ren) is/are facing. It can be as simple as implementing a successful routine for you and your child(ren) or as complex as managing with a child who is displaying high-risk behavioral concerns such as cutting or the development of an eating disorder. No matter what your struggle is as a parent, Andrea would be more than happy to help you. By request, she is able to develop and help parents implement behavior support plans aimed at reducing / eliminating negative behaviors and increasing / highlighting the development of healthy, successful behaviors.
